Classroom courses聽for real estate license holders and inspectors require聽the instructor and聽the聽student to interact face-to-face and in real time, either in the same physical location, or though technology.聽聽Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic,聽many courses聽that聽historically聽were聽offered in a classroom,聽are now being offered聽virtually.聽聽In fact, the number of classroom courses taught virtually has skyrocketed.聽 As the frequency has increased, a聽concern regarding appropriate conduct in virtual courses has聽been raised.聽聽

As a reminder,聽unacceptable聽conduct聽in the physical classroom is also unacceptable in the virtual classroom.聽 There is an expectation of engagement between the student and the instructor, and student to student.聽 Students who are distracted from the course presentation or聽whose behavior is聽distracting to other students in the course,聽can be removed聽from the course and credit withheld.聽聽聽This can include excessive talking, leaving the room,聽or paying attention to a cell phone rather than the instructor.聽

Another聽example of unacceptable聽behavior is聽driving聽while streaming a virtual course.聽To be clear, students聽are not聽allowed聽to聽drive and take CE聽at the same time.聽聽Other than being distracted, this is a聽serious safety issue.聽聽聽Education providers have the authority to establish and enforce policies and procedures to ensure professionalism and respect in the classroom, whether it be in person or virtual.聽聽聽
